Dr. Bashir Mohabbat

Dr. Bashir Mohabbat was born in Kabul, Afghanistan on October 26, 1956.

He obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Nagoya’s Chukyo University in 1982, an M.A. in International Law from Meijo University in Nagoya in 1985.

Upon graduation, Dr. Mohabbat taught International Relations, Central Asian History and Culture, and English at a number of universities in and around Nagoya between 1986 and 1990.

Dr. Mohabbat left the academic sector for a period of five years as from 1990 to 1995, he served as the Sales Manager at a Japanese automotive company based in California.

In 1996, he returned to the teaching, lecturing on the aforementioned subjects at multiple universities and colleges in Nagoya. During this same period, Dr. Mohabbat also served as an official translator for the prefectural police departments of Aichi, Mie, and Gifu prefectures in Dari, Pashto, and English. He served in these roles up until 2002.

From 2003, Dr. Mohabbat entered into the service of his nation, holding the title of Second Secretary at the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Tokyo until he was promoted to First Secretary in 2004. Dr. Mohabbat continued to serve as First Secretary until 2007, the same year that he received his Ph.D in International Law from Nihon University’s Tokyo Campus.

From 2007 to March of 2010, Dr. Mohabbat served in the role of Special Assistant to the Ambassador.

As of March of this year, Dr. Mohabbat has been working as the Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Tokyo.

Of Mr. Mohabbat’s many accomplishment, notable are the special and close relationships that he has built with prominent Japanese political, economic and cultural organizations and groups, the receipt of his Ph.D in International Relations from Nihon Daigaku, his contributions as an instructor in the same field at a number of universities and colleges, his service to the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan through his various roles over nearly five years at the Embassy in Tokyo.

Dr. Mohabbat is fluent in Pashto, Dari, Japanese, and English. Currently, he is also studying Chinese and Spanish.

His hobbies include reading, watching movies, traveling, playing golf, soccer, swimming and horseback riding.

He is married with one daughter.
