Mr. Amiri, Mr. Pratt attend Sasakawa Peace Foundation symposium on Afghan media

December 10, 2012: Mr. Sayed Ali Asghar Amiri, Third Secretary; and Mr. Jason Pratt, Public Affairs Officer; represented the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan at the “Symposium on the Promotion of Media Activities in Afghanistan,” organized by Sasakawa Peace Foundation’s Sasakawa Middle East Islam Fund, the Center for Contemporary Studies in Japan (CCISJ), and the Japan Foundation.

The event featured talks from, in order of speaking, Chairman Osamu Miyata of CCISJ, Mr. Sami Yousafzai of News Week, Ms. Sparghai Basir of Care International, Mr. Gousuddin Frotan of Hindara Media, Ms. Hamida Babak of Pajhwok Afghan News, and Mr. Takuya Goto of CCISJ. All shared broadly on media and human rights related issues and progress within Afghanistan. Roughly 35 people attended the event.

Mr. Amiri, on behalf of Ambassador Dr. Sayed M. Amin Fatimie, took the opportunity to welcome the Afghan group to Japan, and to express appreciation for their dedication towards realizing one of Afghanistan’s priorities, a free media. To the Japanese organizers, Mr. Amiri offered deepest gratitude for raising awareness of Afghanistan in Japan as members of a great nation that has provided invaluable and life-bettering support to Afghanistan’s peace and development.

On the following day, December 11th, the diplomats, including Mr. Hamdard, Second Secretary and Consul; Mr. Kargar, Mr. Amiri, and Ms. Paikan, welcomed to the Embassy Ms. Basir, Mr. Frotan, and Ms. Babak for a visit.
