Mr Hamdard meets with H.E. Mr. Hiroshi Oka, Director-General & Ambassador of Middle Eastern and African Affairs Bureau & Special Representative to Afghanistan & Pakistan Assistance at MOFA


June 14, 2018: First Secretary and Head of Political Affairs of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mr. Basir Hamdard had the great honor and pleasure to meet with His Excellency Hiroshi Oka, the Director-General and Ambassador of the Middle Eastern and African Affairs Bureau and the Special Representative to Afghanistan and Pakistan Assistance at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ headquarters in Tokyo. Also in attendance was his Excellency Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat of the Embassy of Afghanistan in Tokyo.

The purpose of this meeting was to personally hand H.E. Ambassador Mr. Oka an invitation packet to be passed on to His Excellency Taro Kono, Foreign Minister of Japan, and to the Ministerial Conference on Afghanistan that will take place in November 2018. H.E. Dr. Mohabbat emphasized the importance and significance of this planned Ministerial Conference on Afghanistan in Geneva later this year -- jointly hosted by the Government of Afghanistan, United Nations, Joint Coordination & Monitoring Board, and the International Community. In accordance with H.E. Dr. Mohabbat, Mr. Hamdard also expressed how eager Their Excellencies the Ministers in Kabul were for the Japanese presence of H.E. Mr. Kono to attend this event and impart their views and participation in providing feedback on the National Priority Programs (NPPS) – agreed upon in previous international conferences on Afghanistan.

H.E. Mr. Oka thanked H.E. Dr. Mohabbat and Mr. Hamdard for bringing him the invitation packet for the H.E. Foreign Minister Kono from Their Excellencies the Ministers in Kabul, and promised to usher the packet to H.E. Foreign Minister Kono as well as convey the significance of attending and participating in the event. In return, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat and Mr. Hamdard thanked H.E. Mr. Oka for hosting their meeting and for his continued effort in maintaining the relationship between Afghanistan and Japan. Further, they expressed their wholehearted thanks and appreciation for MOFA of Japan for their continuous and benevolent assistance to Afghanistan over the years. H.E. Mr. Oka assured H.E. Dr. Mohabbat and Mr. Hamdard that Japan would continue to stand by and support Afghanistan well into the future.
