March 26, 2020: It was an honor for H.E. Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat to meet with his longtime friend, and longtime friend of Afghanistan, H.E. Mr. Katsuhiko Takahashi, Director-General and Assistant Minister for the Middle Eastern and African Affairs Bureau, as well as Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan of MOFA Japan at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Headquarters in Tokyo.

H.E. Dr. Mohabbat thanked H.E. Mr. Takahashi for making the time in his busy schedule and despite the threat from the COVID-19 to meet with him. On behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan he expressed wholehearted gratitude to the people and Government of the noble nation of Japan for their continuous benevolent support of Afghanistan as it has striven over the years for progress, prosperity, and peace in an Afghan-owned and Afghan-led process. Further and also on behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, he expressed extreme gratitude for the tireless great efforts of H.E. Mr. Tadamichi Yamamoto, UN Secretary-General's Special Representative for Afghanistan, as he has finished his tenure of office after many wonderful works while in his leadership; which earned his the State Medal of 'Sayed Jamaluddin Afghan' presented to him by H.E. Dr. Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. Additionally, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat updated him on the many developments in the peace process Afghanistan has undertaken recently in order to advance regional stability and global peace, including recent Skype meetings between the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Taliban.

In return, H.E. Mr. Takahashi thanked H.E. Dr. Mohabbat for meeting with him as well as for his kind words. H.E. Mr. Takahashi was quite impressed with the progress being made in the Afghan-owned and Afghan-led peace process and reassured him that Japan values its strong and friendly bilateral tie with Afghanistan and as such would continue to stand with Afghanistan well into the future. Further, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat asked for continued and enhanced support, assistance and pledges by the noble nation of Japan at the upcoming '2020 International Conference On Afghanistan.' H.E. Mr. Takahashi promised to do his very best to ensure a continuation of the support, pledges, and assistance to Afghanistan at the conference and well into the future. All those present further discussed topics of mutual interest regarding the continuation of peace talks, economics, and other world issues.
