BRD Okays $30m in AidNEW YORK, March 29 (Hindu Business Line): The World Bank has approved a $30 million grant, designed to improve the health and nutritional status of people, focusing especially on women and children and under-served areas of the country. According to the World Bank, the nation has made significant progress in the health sector over the last six years. The Strengthening Health Activities for Rural Poor project supports Afghanistan's Health and Nutrition Sector Strategy (HNSS), which is the blueprint for the health sector programme for the period 2008-2013. Under the HNSS, the government aims to expand coverage of the Basic Package of Health Services to at least 90 percent of the population by 2010. “Afghanistan has come a long way in improving the health status of its people,†said Mr Emanuele Capobianco, World Bank Health Specialist and Project Team Leader. |
